Enjoy the sights, tastes and sounds of the holiday season this weekend, and get in on some great deals, too! This Friday (7:30 a.m.-6 p.m.) and Saturday (11 a.m.-4 p.m.) only, the season’s most exciting sales event will take place at the EWU University Bookstore – clothing, gifts, backpacks, supplies and more will all be discounted. The Spokane store will have their sale Monday, Dec. 5 (11 a.m. – 6 p.m.).

Game workshop items will be marked down 15 percent; general books, headphones and laptop cases 20 percent; supplies, backpacks, fashion bags and accessories 25 percent; all EWU clothing and gifts, as well as cards and posters 30 percent; and IEcko 4GB USB drives will drop by 40 percent.

Holiday gift wrapping will be available on Friday and Santa will be handing out treats from 10 a.m.-2 p.m., as well.

EWU Veterans Get Help With Childcare

EWU Vice President Student Affairs in 129 Showalter has received a grant to help students who are veterans get some assistance with childcare. Children can be at either the EWU daycare or another daycare. If they are in another daycare, the daycare would have to be willing to bill EWU for the costs. The assistance would begin in January. The amount will be determined by the number of children. If you are a veteran and an EWU student a please e-mail tcarman@ewu.edu by December 15 with the number of children you have who attend daycare. If you have questions, contact Ted Carman at 359-4335.

The Christmas Bureau is funded by donations to The Spokesman-Review Christmas Fund, and is administered by Catholic Charities of Spokane and Volunteers of America. The Christmas Bureau provides gifts and food to those who are in need.

To Receive Gifts/Food:

The 2011 Christmas Bureau will be open to the public from Friday, December 9 through Tuesday, December 20, 2011. Hours will be 10:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. each day. The Christmas Bureau is located at the Spokane County Fair/Expo Center at 404 N. Havana Street (corner of Broadway/Havana, Spokane Valley).

TO APPLY:

Applicants must apply in person on one of the above dates, and bring the following:
* Photo ID for each adult over the age of 18 living in the home.
Accepted forms of ID:
Proof of current address for each adult, such as your most recent utility bill, phone bill, or rent receipt indicating the name of adult and physical address. Proof of each child under the age of 18 living at your address with any of the following which must include child's name, address and date of birth: photo ID, a letter from a social service agency or school, WIC folder verifying each childs name, birthdate and address, daycare letter on their letterhead, DSHS or other social service agency documentation.

PLEASE NOTE: Social Security cards are NOT acceptable proof of identification.

Each household will receive a food voucher for a local grocery store. A gift and a book will be given to each child living in the home (age 17 and younger). Each address is served one time. Only one set of gifts will be given for each child regardless of whether the parents live in different homes. The most needed toys are usually for age’s Birth - 2, and ages 10 -12. Anyone wanting to donate to Toys For Tots can leave new, unwrapped toys at any city fire station, at the KHQ Broadcast Center at 1201 W. Sprague Avenue, in downtown Spokane, at Spencer's Antiques, 1325 N. Division St. (corner Sinto/Division), or at area Walmart locations.

Did you know EWU has Laser Tag Sunday nights? Did you know it is open to EWU students and open to immediate family members as well? The Jim Thorpe Field House is transformed by a fog machine, dimmed lights and barriers, as up to 28 participants gear up with laser vests and laser guns provided by the faculty for an exciting game of laser tag. Feed Cheney is putting on another hot dinner on Monday, October 31 at 5:30-6:30 pm. There was a great turn out of about 82 people last time! Bring your whole family and get some good, healthy food in your tummy before you head out for trick-or-treating!
The dinner is located at Wren Pierson Community Center, 615 4th Street.

Also, for families living in the Medical Lake area...
there will be a dinner on Monday, October 10, 5-6pm at St. John's Lutheran Church, 223 S. Hallett Street in Medical Lake.

They will also be giving away free groceries at both dinners!
